With few TIPS!
It was only after more than 6 years I realised that I have been in photography for such a long period of time because all of it started when I was in STD four and my mentor ,that is my uncle, bought me a Canon PowerShot A 1400 SLR camera and I couldn’t have been happier for few weeks and then as time faded and along with it took the joy of new camera because at that time I had no internet or any places to discuss about photos. I didn’t have any personal interest as I have now, as I was completely unaware of the essence photography at that time. But later as I grew up and saw my uncle using his big-large-water-bottle-like lens and a brick-sized camera I grew inpatient to learn about it. At the age of 13 I got my first computer and only then I realised how beautifully I’ve been capturing nice pictures past these years.

It was only then I started to look into photography carefully and started to hunt the web for the answer of the very common question “Should I start photography?!” and thus my journey began…
Carrying my small SLR everywhere and shooting randomly had given enough of the experience to learn and realise ‘goods and bads’ on my own and gradually I became much more attracted to photography, especially when I discovered the level of Nostalgia it provided to me.

Gradually as I grew up more, I started to master it. I bought DSLR, its gears, upgraded my PC and then a whole new episode began. I was also involved in camping, hiking, Rock climbing, snow crafting, etc from 4 years of age onward and have been researching and rescuing snakes since then( a skill I learnt from my father during his masters) and hence I was always of the wild type. My photography began with wildlife, particularly snakes.
While rescuing snakes from localities, I discovered that often the residents were bitten in rural areas. they were so poor that they don’t even afford to get a photo of them printed from somewhere! So unknowingly I found their everlasting joy when I gave them a photocopy of their beloved. The smiles of the kids, the family, the gratefulness, inspired me more to take photos provide them a forever gift.
Very soon one of my pictures was selected as a cover picture of a book named Saaper Saatkahon (Dey’s publishing House) in Bengali written by my father Apurba Das and then I started to get many Snake-bite-and-treatment awareness seminar contracts on schools and clubs(Non-Paid Of course).
Seeing my own Clicked photos (see : A Morning as I saw It!), maintaining Instagram and following others,I learnt to fine tune my images and develop few of my own techniques (Check Here!) which I felt best for beginners to boost the learning process in no time:-
- Don’t resist your your urge to shoot
- Shoot anything you see
- Don’t be shy to shoot
- Start shooting with any camera
- Post your photos online to get to decide
- Learn from others
- Device your own techniques and style
Now I fell in love with photography, but for a boy from middle-class family meeting the cost of it was very tough and it is for now as well. So I started to use cheap gears at the beginning And tried hard to get the best out of it. It helped me develop much more strong understanding of photographic aspects such as color, light, focal length, manual, ISO, etc.

Don’t think when I started photography I knew anything. No Sir! I was perplexed as hell and was quite confused with so many functions of the camera!!!
All I say now is that don’t be afraid, just jump in! It’s the best thing…. to take photos… to capture the moments…. to resurrect….. to feel the Nostalgia…. to be creative and….to FLY before you sleep, for now or forever….
